Reginald Dwayne Betts offers both some hard truths and some experiential wisdom in this beautifully wrought collection of poems. Don't let the title fool you: there's a great deal of love in these pages.
What I'm teaching my students from this book is the technique of toggling between exterior imagery to convey the interiority of the speaker, which Betts manages masterfully.
